Random Thoughts
October 2, 2011

Sadly, I could not attend the writer's conference in Las Vegas :(   I had to make a choice between school and the conference, and school won.  Although I hated to miss the conference, I am very excited about starting back to school!  Of course, again, that means less time for other things like writing, but I am trying to find a balance, and this time I'm actually going to try scheduling time in my calendar on a weekly basis to see if that works!  I have a renewed energy with the announcement of my inclusion in the Girl Fever anthology -- I hope that will give me the boost I need to get some creativity flowing!

It amazes me how quickly time can go by.  Yes, once again it's been WAYYYYY too long since I've updated this page and, frankly, my entire site!  I made a few changes but won't finish it all today.... take a look around -- you'll see a new thing or two! :)

I buckled down a couple of times and forced myself to carve out time for writing, and so far I'm happy with the results!  I want to keep going!  I need to be more careful with my time and use it wisely.  I hear this from a lot of writers, so I know I'm not alone.

There is an erotic writer's convention in September in Las Vegas, and I really want to go!  I hope I can make it work - it looks like a blast!

I must have screwed up my web update somewhere along the line, because I know I wrote a blurb about the Spank! anthology, prior to adding the Spank! blog tour page.  :: sigh ::   Anyway....  if you've already read the blog tour then you know that Spank! has been released and is available for order through Amazon.com and Logical-Lust!  I'm almost embarassed to admit I haven't read the entire anthology yet.  Not for a lack of wanting to!  I've just been crazy busy with other stuff.  I plan to finish it this week though -- in fact, I will make it a priority!

Yes, once again it's been way too long since my last update.  I'm just going to go ahead and accept the fact that from here on out, I will probably only update this page two to three times a year.  Maybe then I'll stop feeling guilty.   We'll see how that goes.

Happy New Year!

Well, sadly, I have made very little time for writing.  In addition to the usual holiday insanity, I had a lot of things going on in my personal life, and that had me down in the dumps for a bit.

But... it's a new year and I am hoping to make good on my plans to spend more time writing!

I'm working on a new story for a spanking anthology -- deadline is coming up soon, so I have to get moving on it!

More of the same....
Yet again, I'm going to gripe about not having enough time to dedicate to writing.  I really don't know where the time goes, and I am appalled everytime I sign on to write an update and realize it's been 5 or 6 months since the last time!

In any case, unfortunately the story I wrote about in my last entry didn't pan out.  The publisher decided to cut it from the final layout.  Oh well.  It's a great story - one of the best I've ever written - so I know I'll find a good home for it as soon as I dedicate some time to doing so.

I did manage to carve out a couple of hours last week to submit a couple of stories, so we'll see what happens.  And with that... now seems like a good time to get started on my next project!

Holy crap.  I knew it had been a long time since I'd been here, but I honestly had no idea it's been more than 5 months!!!!  It's unexcusable really.  The tired old "I don't have enough time for everything" is worn out.  I've been seriously considering giving up my studies and just concentrating on the things I love doing -- writing being one of them. I don't know.  I'm going to take July off and give it some thought.  Anyway.... not only have I been remiss in updating my own website - I haven't made any time for writing either -- save for last weekend when I was supposed to be cramming for an examn, I had a sudden burst of inspiration, and at the end of the day I had submitted two stories for consideration, and prepared a third to be mailed.

Even better -- later in the week, I received an email from an editor of an anthology I have been trying to get into for years!  My story was preliminarily accepted... yay!  Now I just have to pass the final round from the publisher.  That's going to be a LONG wait!  Even sweeter - this is the anthology I referenced earlier - the one I had submitted to the very first time, but wasn't chosen for.  So, it would be great if I finally made it in :)

In other news -- I think I am going to coordinate a writer's retreat this year.  I couldn't pull it off last year, but this year I think I'm in a better place for it.  I've already begun researching locations -- I think I can get it together by October.  I'm excited about it!

December 13, 2008

This seems to be a reoccuring theme:  I've been away for way too long!   But, again, I have good news... so perhaps it works after all.  My story "A Is For Apple" will be part of the "Where The Girls Are" anthology that is due out in Spring 2009!  It's always fantastic news to have a story accepted for publishing, but this one is particularly sweet because it's been rejected twice before.  Many writers will tell you to keep on trying - don't get discouraged by "rejections" - and my journey is a testament to that theme.

I submitted my first story for consideration several years ago... can't even remember when for certain, probably  2001.  Anyway, it took a lot of guts for me to do it, and I was crushed when I received the rejection notice several months later.  I was so traumatized by the experience that I didn't submit another story for five years; and that was only after joining a writer's group and reading several posts about encouragement and not giving up.

So, I did it - I swallowed my fears and dusted off a few stories, made some revisions and finally submitted one for publishing - and it was accepted!  It was awesome and it gave me the courage to try again!

I'm not anywhere near where I'd like to be in terms of being a successful writer, but the few small successes have encouraged me to keep going.  Now I just have to find the time!  (or make the time, as some would suggest!)

October 19, 2008

Once again, it's been way too long since I've posted, but I've been busy!  The best news is "Hurts So Good" is on the shelves, and my story "Sting" is the second in the list of great stories!

In other news, I took at trip to Disneyworld - something I've been trying to make happen for the last three years, and finally got lucky enough to do it!  I wish I could say it was the vacation of a lifetime, but between the hot and humid weather and the screaming and crying kids, I was more than ready to come home after four days.  I had fun, but it was exhausting.  Next vacation is definitely going to be something involving relaxing on the beach!

And as usual, I've done very little writing lately.  Ugh.

August 16, 2008

As usual, I'm struggling to find the time or energy to accomplish everything I want to do... ugh!   And.... call me crazy, but I've decided to go back to school.  It's something I've wanted to do for so long, and while the time is not optimal, it's as good a time as any - and frankly, I don't believe there ever WILL be an optimal time, so fuck it - I'm going.  I'm actually really excited about and trying not to get caught up in the question "where am I going to find the time?"  One thing I've learned in this life - nothing comes easy, so if it's worth having, there's probably going to be some pain involved < grin >.

July 27, 2008

I've been making time to write lately, and it feels so good!  It's funny though - sometimes I feel like I actually have to force myself to sit there and type, even though I love it.  I submitted two short stories last week - that's a pretty big accomplishment for me.

Great news about my story "Sting" - it is definitely going to be included in "Hurts So Good" by Alison Tyler!  Can't wait to read the entire anthology!

I'm so impressed with people who can put together an entire anthology of their works, or a novel.  I hope to someday join those ranks, but I honestly don't know if I have the patience or attention span.  It feels extremely overwhelming, but I'd like to give it a real try - someday.

June 11, 2008 - revised

What a week!  I've been blessed with a few good things and plagued with a few bad things.
First the good stuff:  I think my story "Sting" is finally going to be published! Yay!  I so glad
because I really think it's a good story.  Admittedly, I don't always end up loving the end
product of what I've written, but I really like this one! :)

Okay, onto other stuff - I won $100 in a raffle last night - that was cool.

Bad stuff - severe weather has caused a power outage in my area, and yes I'm one of the
lucky ones (insert sarcasm) still without power.  To add to my already lovely day, I had
somewhat of a freak accident and injured my knee.  I'm afraid to wonder what else
might happen to top off my evening.  But, all in all, things are good and I must make
time for more writing!  In fact, I think I'll do that now!

May 27, 2008

I decided to change this page title to Random Thoughts because the previous title, Jessica's Blog,
really  wasn't accurate.  It isn't set up like a blog, and to be honest, I hate the term 'blog'!  So, now
it's just this... random thoughts.

I continue to struggle to find time to write; although it's one of my first loves, it takes a lot of energy
and it has a lot of competition.  I just had a three-day weekend and got very little writing done.  UGH!

May 23, 2008

Holy crap, I've been horribly absent lately!  I've been busy working, studying and struggling
to find time to write.  But the good news is, I stayed up until midnight on the deadline date
of a call for submission and finally just sent the damn thing even though I probably should
have kept writing.  Anyway, they loved my story and it's been accepted for publishing! Yay!
Things are looking up!

Also, Rubber Sex is supposed to be hitting the shelves if it hasn't already, so that's awesome
news too!

Still no final word yet on the other Cleis anthology.

March 29, 2008

I've been working my ass off lately so I decided to buy myself a present - a new laptop!
I've never owned my own laptop.  I've used them for work, but I've never had my own, so
I'm pretty excited about it.  I really bought it for the purpose of taking it with me so I can
write when the mood strikes me!

And even (potential) better news.... I received notice that another story of mine is being
considered for publication in a fetish anthology... yay!

March 11, 2008

My newest story, "In The Middle" is scheduled to be published in May as part of the Rubber Sex anthology!  Click
